 Hi, everyone. Hope all is well, just stopping by on a break from my studies...I think I must be the pentultimate procrastinator... []

Paper due tomorrow...so ta ta!

~~~~~~~
Well, I've got over 1000 words out of the 2500 I need...I'm getting there. []
~~~~~~~

1600...

EDIT: 2100...

~~~~~~~
DONE!
 Yay for Paris!!! This trip has been absolutely fantastic and it was great to meet MT'ers!!! There will be pictures when I get back to Derry tomorrow!!
~~~~~~~~~

[]

Leaving Paris today. [] []

Have had such a fantastic time here...will post pictures when I get back to Derry tonight.

Just wanted to give first (tentative) notice that there will be another MT party in Derry the weekend of Halloween. There is a big celebration in Derry on Halloween and it is a lot of fun. Don't book yet - I need to make sure my school funding goes through (which it should) but hold the weekend if you are interested in coming and let me know if you are interested...

~~~~~~~~~~~
Back in Derry. []
Had such a wonderful weekend - it was over so soon! []
Will go upload pictures now, though. []
~~~~~~~~~~

My facebook friends can see a selection of Paris photos now...

If you're not on facebook, you'll have to wait until I get them approved by everyone in them. []

sammii: (Default)
Barad-Dur was also terribly high... []

I think I prefer being closer to the ground, thank you very much. []

The flight here was really bumpy and terrifying...I thought I was going to die before I ever saw Paris at all...I think from now on I prefer to travel by train or boat...pretty ones shaped like swans maybe... []

Anyway - it has been fantastic to meet more MT'ers!!!! I have tons of pictures to upload when I return to Derry!

sammii: (Default)
YEAH!

*stress flies away from Ama's shoulders*

I rocked the world with my exams...oh yeah...go me. []

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Great.
The girl who lives next door to me in the dorm has decided to have loud sex with her boyfriend frequently. There are some things I really don't want to hear, but I'm quite trapped. [] []
God, I wish the walls were a bit thicker.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

It's enough to make be vomit, actually. They need to find a place to do that where the whole world can't hear.

~~~~~~~~~
Yeah, I'll get laid when hell freezes over.
~~~~~~~~~

So, since I got my results back from my exams (and rocked the world!) I now have to come up with a topic for my master's thesis. I have some time, but I want it to be something good.

*thinks*

[] [] []

sammii: (Default)
Just found out I'll be spending March 29 - April 4 in Belgium, on a 'field trip' with my University. [] Woohoo!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
quote:
Where in Belgium ?
We're staying at the Irish College in Leuven, but I think we'll be going to Brussels as well. []
I'm excited. []
sammii: (Default)
Hey, guys, would you mind putting my grandma in your thoughts? She went into the hospital on Saturday with congestive heart failure. She's doing alright, but she's 89 years old, so this could very well be the beginning of the end for her. [] She's ready to go - she tells us this rather frequently - but I've always been very close to her and if she were to pass on while I'm over here and couldn't even go to her funeral I'd be absolutely devastated. Maybe that's selfish of me, but I can't stand to see her go yet. So please keep her in your prayers. []
sammii: (Default)
*has never seen Lost*
Hello again, everyone. [] I'm back.
What a stressful week. Left for a bit because I thought everyone would appreciate me not having another nervous breakdown on the board. []
Apparently, UU hasn't cashed my loan check yet, which has led to my loan appearing as "cancelled" on the website. Which sent me into a total panic, because if my loan hasn't paid my tuition, I'm SOL - there's no way I can come up with the £8000 that I owe. But it turns out that it's the University's fault, not mine, and the University and the lender are working ot figure it out.
So I can relax now, after that scare.
[]
EDIT:
quote:
I saw Jürgen Habermas on Wednesday speak about religion and secularisation.
FLIPPING AWESOME!!!! []
sammii: (Default)
OMG, it's SUNNY!!!!! [] []
~~~~~~~~

Right, so I get up super early this morning, get ready, and head to campus only to find out that my class isn't until tomorrow.

[]

~~~~~~~
Yes, it is. []
I was still annoyed with myself, though.
sammii: (Default)
Hamfast and Keo - I'm afraid I wasn't clear. Lush sells soap - the kind you bathe with, not the type you watch. I was a bit confused until I figured out that's what you thought I meant! Sorry about that!
sammii: (Default)
I love that new Heroes game on Facebook! [] It's nifty and fun. Even if Elu is stronger than me. [] []
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I don't anticipate getting over feeling sad about Heath anytime soon...I was looking forward to his career so much....And he had a little girl and everything...
I'm going to sound like a heartless bitch, but so be it. People die every day. People with little girls and little boys. Only those with money and fame ever get remembered. It's sad, yes. It's always sad when someone dies before their time. But I guess I just can't understand getting bent out of shape over the death of someone I've never met. I read the articles, and yes, it was sad. He was a good actor and it was a tragedy. But isn't getting yourself in a mope about it a little excessive?

~~~~~~~~~
Do any other UK MT'ers get their soaps and stuff from Lush? Athene introduced me to this stuff when we were in Bath, and I'm totally and absolutely addicted.
~~~~~~~~~

Unfortunately, I've not been able to see a lot of English TV, because I'm a poor college student and can't afford a TV of my own. [] But I do love their soaps. They're all handmade and no-animal-testing and all that kind of thing, so they're all guilt free as well.

sammii: (Default)
Well, just let me say I'm glad to be back in Derry - London or not - as long as my brother's evil bitch of a girlfriend is nowhere around.

~~~~~~~~
No, actually I absolutely love it here.
I love the people, and I think the country is stunningly beautiful (even in January), and I love how close I am to the rest of Europe, and I love that I get free medical care...etc. etc.
Although I must say I'm craving some real Mexican food. []
~~~~~~~~~~

Usually, I like the rain. It's gentle and calming and nice when I'm sleeping. But I don't like it when I have to walk back from the store or something in it. And not having a car (which I usually like as well) I sometimes don't have any other options.

At least it's a lot warmer here than it is at home in January.

~~~~~~~~~~~
Yes, but suprisingly, Indiana has a fantastic selection of Mexican food. We're a very agricultural state, and we have a lot of migrant workers, many of whom decide to settle there - and start resturants. My town of 13,000 has three authentic Mexican restaurants - the type where they don't really speak English at all and you kind of point to the number on the menu. []
Ah, I miss it!!!
EDIT: And I'd love some good company now too. *sigh* []
sammii: (Default)
My father teaches Human Sexuality.
I don't want to think about that. []
I have my last exam in two and a half hours! In less than five hours, I WILL BE FREE!!!!!!!!
And my brother is coming tomorrow!!! I'm excited - haven't seen any family in over four months, and it's been more than a year since I've seen my brother. []
~~~~~~~~~~~

EXAMS ARE DONE!!!!!!111!!!!!

Whether I failed them or did brilliantly, it is now 100% totally and completely out of my hands!!! []

And I'm free for two weeks! []

Life is good. []

sammii: (Default)
Hey, all.

Have my first exam in 2 hours, and I'm more than a little nervous. Half my grade hinges on this. Wish me luck?

~~~~~~~~~
Well, saying I'm going to be writing on Poynings' Law and the Jacobite Parliament of 1689, it actually was. []
*tries to relax*
*takes lots of deep breaths*
~~~~~~~~

[]

Well, Poynings' Law was brought in by Henry VIII and The Jacobite Parliament of 1689 was lead by James II - who ELSE's fault would it be?

[]

EDIT: *takes the [] and holds it inside for her exam*

Well, I'd best be off.

I have to go print out my exam schedule and buy a virgin pen.

sammii: (Default)
My diet begins Saturday, when my best friend starts, Swordy. I feel your pain. I lost almost 3 stone, and gained it all back. [] So it's time to get it off again! Athene is right, snack on healthy things of course, but don't let yourself get hungry!

EDIT: And all the lolKiens are very appreciated and I will get them up soon, but right now I'm in the middle of exams so please give me a few days kthxbai. []

sammii: (Default)
Have I mentioned that my brother's girlfriend is an evil orc?

~~~~~~~~~
[]
*pulls her sword on her*
Get thee gone, and take thy due place! (Which, by the way, is under my brother's thumb, with your stupid mouth SHUT)
Edit: Changes signature, after reading Silmarillion again. [] []
sammii: (Default)
Right now I am running into town to buy a duvet.
Unless I can steal across the Irish sea and steal Athene's duvet without her noticing... []
Best. Duvet. Ever.
~~~~~~~~~~

I can has duvet.

~~~~~~~~~~
I like Obama.
Huckabee scares me.
But I guess that's expected. []
Derry is so beautiful today! We got several inches of snow last night and it's sticking to everything. Truly lovely!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Singy, from the polls I've read, Clinton has the most people who absolutely, positively won't vote for her. So I support Obama in the hope that he can get some of those people.

We'll see.

The idea of President Huckabee is more than a little terrifying.

~~~~~~~~~
Er, how do you put a duvet into a duvet cover? I can't find any holes!
~~~~~~~~~

Aha!

Found it!

[]

~~~~~~~~~
[]
Today is a good day.
I was calling 02 to make my payment, and they were like, "er...you have £37 in credit left."
Apparently they've applied the deposit I forgot I made way back in September.
So I won't have to pay next month either!
Woohoo!
~~~~~~~~~~

I'm tired.

And not even the Lucozade is helping.

sammii: (Default)
Lucozade Orange.

And it was GOOOOD! []

[Re: About what I mixed with my malibu, lol]

~~~~~~
See, I guess I'm in the opposite situation.
I did do what I wanted to do, despite what my parents wanted. []
My family was constantly trying to pressure me into journalism or law, when what I really wanted to do was research (yes, it's geeky, but we all have our dreams). To be honest, I've never been happier. I'll never get rich this way, but I'll be satisfied in ways that money could never make me ( [] *waiting for obscene comments on that*).
Money is only part of happiness, Swordy. I'm not going to say it's nothing - because it does matter. But it certainly isn't everything, and if your heart is in writing, you have to write.
Good luck to you!
~~~~~~~~

Try rum and Lucozade. It's quite good.

~~~~~~~~
[]
Speaking of lolcats...
I can has Silmaril?
~~~~~~~~~

I must give credit where credit is due...it was Athene's idea. []

And we are planning to start a LOLkein website - so send me your pics, Lili, and we'll get them going. []

~~~~~~~~~
Please use one of the Fëanor brats, plz?
[]
Brats?
[]
sammii: (Default)
Ah, my fever finally broke and my appetite came back, so I think I'm finally on the mend! []
Happy New Year, everyone, even though there's still ten hours here and fifteen hours in New York!
~~~~~~~~~

*waves hello to Scandinavia 2008 from western...western...western Europe*

Half an hour left here!

~~~~~
Double post (but it's a special occasion): Happy New Year from Europe!
sammii: (Default)
Sick as in a cold or is it worse?
Worse. I think I have the flu.
sammii: (Default)
*is back in Derry*
[]
Had a fantastic time in England. And now I have to start revising. []
~~~~~~~~

[]

God, I don't remember the last time I was this sick.

sammii: (Default)
I'm here!

donkey is well, and Milo sends his regards.

The flight was actually quite good once I got off the ground, the delay was crap, though.

Going out to buy cheese soon! []

sammii: (Default)
I leave for Christmas at Athene's in less than twelve hours! []

God, I hate flying. []

sammii: (Default)
Two days to England!!! []

~~~~~~~
What is a cheeseboard?
It sounds lovely, but I have no idea what it is.
[]
~~~~~~~

[] []

Ooh, it sounds absolutely lovely!

Edit: And it looks even lovelier!

[] []

Cheese! Mmmm...and with fruit and crackers - even better! [] []

Has the tea arrived yet for your mom and grandma?

*hopes*

~~~~~~~~
Well, I have some little things for your mom and grandma, but I want the tea to get there, darnit! []
Ah well, if it doesn't, you'll just have to take me out shopping to get something else for them. [] I will need to go anyway because I can't bring my pressies on the plane wrapped. []
Oooh! I'm so excited. And the food sounds uber-good! Now if we just have some lucozade to wash it down, it'll be a perfect meal. []
~~~~~~~~~

donkey will have a special present this year too.

[]

sammii: (Default)
I found a great copy of Unfinished Tales for 50p at a charity shop.

Go me. []

sammii: (Default)

[]

Where has Athene been?

~~~~~~~~~
You're alive!!!!
FIVE DAYS!!!!! []
~~~~~~~~~

[]

DON'T OPEN THEM!

The one from the lady in Exeter is for donkey.

The other one is for you.

Don't open!!!!

There should still be several more coming, as well.

And I went shopping this weekend.

You will have a stocking this year. []

And yes, my flight gets in at 3 on Sunday.

~~~~~~~~~~~~
[]
Woohoo! Christmas is coming! And I will be leaving Northern Ireland for a few days and visiting Athene! [] And tehre will be much rejoicing! []
Argh, I think I need a nap.
~~~~~~~~~~~~

British hot cocoa is good.

Even if you do have to add sugar. []

sammii: (Default)
Sunny sunny sunny sunny sunny sunny sunny!!!

sammii: (Default)
So it's not going to go ruin a precious part of my childhood if I go see it? Yay! [] [Alvin and the Chipmunks]

I'm not hungover. []

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
[]
I forgot Lil's birthday! [] !
HAPPY BIRTHDAY LILLIANNA!!!! [] []
~~~~~~~~~

Ah, the joys of pathetic British TV.

~~~~~~~~~
Never seen American Idol, actually.
But the thing is, we have good shows in addition to crap...
Unlike you. []
~~~~~~~~~

I agree on British comedy - although you have to have a rather odd sense of humor. I quite like it. []

But you don't have anything as good as Heroes or Law and Order when it comes to drama.

sammii: (Default)
[] [] [] []

I just turned in my last essay!!! Freedom awaits!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Yes, such a wonderful, wonderful feeling. I can sit here and do nothing on MT today and not feel guilty about it. []
EDIT: Except that I should really do my laundry. []
~~~~~~~~~

Of course, now I'm having to clean up the mess I made while I was doing all that work and get my room back into shape. But that's better than having to write an essay any day. []

~~~~~~~~~
*has HoME 1-12*
Most are at home, though. []
Strangely, the Milo-Sacrifice picture has become one of the most frequently-viewed pictures in my photo album. []
Women have ALWAYS been complicated. We pride ourselves on it. []
Well, I must be off to get more fascinating articles to read for this stupid essay that's due tomorrow. Why am I such a procrastinator? Can someone tell me this?
I think I'm coming down with a cold. AAAARGH! Oh well. Today orientation began at 10:30 and we had a series of meetings covering different aspects of university life, and then watched a movie on the Northern Ireland coast. Then three of us walked downtown, kind of exploring. Made it all the way to the visitor's center where we bought postcards.
It was lovely and sunny today, although it appeared to have rained this evening. Hope I can get the upper hand on this cold.
sammii: (Default)
Argh, what a dreary, miserable day today. Sunday and Monday, while it did rain, the sun came out at times. Not so today - cloudy and dreary all day. We started our orientation with a campus tour and introduction to the faculty of arts today, although the latter was geared more towards undergraduate students. As far as I can tell, I'm the only international student in my program, although I won't know for sure until Monday, of course, when classes start. Last night was really noisy outside my window, with a bunch of drunk guys singing Irish rebel songs. *rolls eyes* Great. Although it was also amusing.
Registered with the nurse today and I was quite amazed to discover that I get all my medical care completely free! Kind of sad when another country treats you better than your own, eh?
Had another girl move into the flat today - a PhD student from Germany. She seems really nice.
sammii: (Default)
Busy day again, but not nearly as crazy as yesterday! Got up early this morning, feeling fairly refreshed, and headed out to start a bank account and get a mobile phone. I feel a lot less naked now that I have a phone - I don't feel so cut off from the rest of the world now! And it looks like once I get my internet set up I'll be able to get vonage myself and call home as often as I like. Another flatmate moved in today - Diana Webster, a Peace and Conflict studies student from New York! We went out around Derry, down to the mall in the city center, walked along the river a bit - it was really quite nice, despite the rather cold wind. It really is a nice city, and I think I'm going to be doing a whole lot of walking!
Weather: A few showers, but lots of sun. Windy.
MAIL: Recieved letter from Joe, sent letter to Carole.
sammii: (Default)
Ok, hopefully now I can actually write something and make sense now! I was so incredibly tired earlier I almost couldn't stand it! So I'm in Derry now, in my room. It's a nice room, quite large and comfortable with a good bit of storage space. The flight from [to] Belfast was long but uneventful. I sat beside a guy from Derry who seemed nice, but I was too tired to talk much and got a couple of hours of sleep on the plane. Customs was quite simple and stress-free, and the lady at the airport was able to devise a way for me to get to Derry that didn't involve waiting at the airport for two hours. It truly feels fantastic to be here. I almost cried as the bus entered Derry - it felt SO GOOD to be back.
I don't think there's anyone here in my apartment except one other girl - Rachel Flanagan, a master's student from Co. Mayo in the Republic. We talked for an hour or two tonight, watching guys play soccer out the kitchen window. Great fun!
Tomorrow I need to find out the schedule for this week, get a cell phone, set up a bank account, and run various and sundry errands to get myself moved in. Should be fun. (rolls eyes)
sammii: (SPNSamDeanhug)
Weather: Intermittent showers, some heavy
I'm finally here! Arrived in Belfast about a half-hour early this morning, cleared customs easily. It was really simpler than I feared it might be. Took a bus to Belfast and then to Derry, then a cab to pick up my key and go to my room. Got everything set up (looks nice too). Spent some time cleaning, straightening, unpacking. Right now so tired...write more later.
sammii: (SPNSamAHBLLookinginmirror)
Weather: Sunny, partly cloudy.
So here I am, sitting here at Newark Airport, waiting to embark on what will likely become on of the greatest adventures of my life. It's about 5:20pm now, and my flight doesn't leave until 8:55pm, so I've still got a good, long time to wait. I can't wait to get on the plane, get my pillow and blanket, and get some rest for what will, undoubtedly, be a very busy day tomorrow.
Mom and I finished packing last night about 3:00am. We were able to get everything, including my bedding (except my comforter) into those two LL Bean bags that Ted got me for graduation. And I was even able to keep them underweight so that I didn't have to pay any fees.
It's a beautiful day in Newark today. Some puffy clouds, but it's clear and sunny anyway. Likely one of my last glimpses of the sun in a while if that weather forecast is right. We'll see!
This morning wasn't as difficult as I feared it might be. We got up early and were out of the house by about 8:45am. We stopped by Cracker Barrell in order for my mom to buy me one of those angels (which she will mail to me). Then we got breakfast at Arby's (Chicken Biscuits are good!) and headed on down to Louisville, where we met Laura and had some coffee at Starbucks before I went through security. Mom called me about 5 minutes after I got to the gate. It was hard to leave her, but it makes it a lot better that she has vonage now and we'll be able to talk as often as we like. Dad was better at hiding it, but I think he was equally emotional. Myself, I'll be very glad to get to Derry tomorrow and get some much needed rest!
PS: The flight from Louisville to Newark was good but bumpy! Lots of "little" turbulence.
sammii: (Default)
I'm here but in the middle of exams - probably why you haven't seen me around!
sammii: (Default)
Exams can rot in the lowest levels of Mordor.
We hatess them!!!
[] []
My most important one is today at 2:00pm GMT.
Wish me luck.
Evil, evil English people!
I cannot stop drinking tea!
I want it all the time!
It is so warm and nice and gentle on my belleh...
I didn't need it so badly before I went to England and was drowned in it. []
