Thoughts on Criminal Minds, Season 1 Episodes 1-4 (Disc 1)

I started watching this show a year or so ago, after I got cable in Florida for the first time. I think I started watching it because Jackson Rathbone was in an episode, and I had a bit of a crush on him while I was big in the Twilight fandom.

Well, I decided to put Season 1 on Netflix, because while I've seen a lot of episodes on rereuns (and some of the new ones), I find I always benefit a lot by watching them in order, and so far this seems to be no different.

I had seen most of the episodes on this disc, but it was nice to see how they fit in to the series as a whole, and to see what came before them.

I like this show because I think it's kind of an interesting spin to take on your typical crime show. It's different from Law and Order, or CSI because it concentrates on the psychological reasons why people do the terrible things they do - and that's always interesting. I always thought they had really creative stories as well.

Also, I've always been a fan of Mandy Patinkin - although I mainly know him from his Broadway stuff (I have recordings of him as Che in Evita and Sancho in Man of La Mancha, as well as some of his solo albums), so that grabbed me from the start. He's just a fabulous actor all around.

I love the other characters too - especially Reid, Morgan and Garcia.

EPISODE 1 - EXTREME AGGRESSOR

I had seen this one before. I never realized it was the pilot. Maybe not the best of all the episodes I've seen, but definitely a good start. I kind of liked the way they brought together the team sort of...calmly. No big flashiness with introducing characters.

EPISODE 2 - COMPULSION

I had seen this one before, too. This one I liked a lot more than the first one - I found the Religious OCD idea quite interesting.

EPISODE 3 - WON'T GET FOOLED AGAIN

I think this is the only one on the disc that I hadn't seen before. I quite liked it - and quite liked seeing Gideon get back at the guy who killed the six agents and messed up his mind. And some of the bomb stuff (especially with the little girl) was pretty tense and cool.

EPISODE 4 - PLAIN SIGHT

I had seen this one before as well, maybe more than once. I thought it was a pretty cool story, and it was pretty cool how they were so dead-on about the UnSub...And Spencer was really cute in this one. :)
