Supernatural Season 3 Rewatch 3:1 - 'The Magnificent Seven'
SUMMARY

ORIGINAL AIRDATE
October 4, 2007
LITTLE THINGS I NOTICED
*This is the first episode we see Ruby.
*This is the first episode we see Tamara and John, and I think the last?
*Sam is referred to as Azazel's 'Boy King' by Pride
*All the demons know who Sam is. This has to be higher than just Azazel and his little demon survivor contest, because how would they know about Sam's specifically from Azazel? Jake was the winner of his little contest, as far as demons would know. This seems to me like it's bigger. Maybe a vessel thing.
*Is it just me, or are most other hunters kind of a) psycho or b) stupid?
*Dean made a reference to "Seven." God, I hated that movie.
THINGS I LIKED ABOUT THIS EPISODE
*I like how Dean is dealing with his year left. He's obviously upset and scared, but covering it it up with bravado, sex, and 'fun'. Very Dean.
*Sam wants to talk about it. Also very Sam.
*I liked seeing the seven deadly sins in action. The envy one was pretty cool. Did envy choose that person to possess because he was envious of all the other cars on the block before he was even possessed?
*This episode feels like the start of something big. Which it kind of is.
THINGS I DIDN'T LIKE ABOUT THIS EPISODE
*Again, why are most other hunters (with the exception of Bobby, Ellen and Jo) either psycho or stupid? You wonder how they lasted as long as they did.
*Ugh, what an awful way to kill the guy. That was icky.

I think they might have had the germ of the Vessels idea even then. Though I've also heard it said that that idea came about during the Writers's Strike.
You kind of have to be psycho to be a hunter. Or you become psycho once you're in it. Sam and Dean resist the psycho by leaning on each other, but they consider themselves crazy at this point. Tamara was apparently leaning on Isaac. I don't see her lasting long without him.
I rather liked "Seven," but I've only seen it once. This was my first episode of SPN and I really liked that they referenced that movie. It was nice to "get" something after being dropped into this new mythology.
Dean's being immature. Love it.
Sam's being kind of super mature. Love it. He's trying to take care of Dean, cause Dean's not taking care of himself <3
Fullmetal does the Seven Deadly Sins as well. Stay tuned!
This episode pales next to the other season openers, I think (except for the Pilot). But I rewatched it last week and still liked it. I just can't stop comparing every opener to "Lazarus Rising" and "In My Time of Dying."
I actually can't decide which death is worse: Sloth or Gluttony. Gluttony is definitely squickier...
