Little Things I Noticed
*This is the episode that we first meet Jo, Ellen and Ash at the Roadhouse.
*This is the episode where Dean is rebuilding the Impala after the accident (re: 5:22)
*Sam is afraid of clowns.
*No Impala in this episode! They drive around in a crappy old Caravan Minivan.
Things I Liked About this Ep
*I really like that they actually give an episode for Sam and Dean to deal with their father's death. They just don't suck in their feelings and move on bravely and stoically (although Dean tries). Sam is trying to cope by posthumously becoming the obedient little soldier while Dean is doing everything he can to hold it in (until the very end). But they're both suffering and they're both grieving and it's really nice they were given an ep to do that.
*I like Ash and Ellen a lot. Jo's alright too.
Things I Didn't Like About this Ep
*Well, except for the very significant 'likes' listed above, this wasn't a very good ep. It dragged in a lot of places, the monster wasn't fleshed out at all, they did no research (all Sam did was call Ellen), and the fight scene where they killed it was very anticlimactic. We also had no contact with any of the victims whatsoever, so it was hard to build sympathy for them. It's obvious that this was an episode dedicated to the boys' emotional conditions after losing their father, and that's well and good, but they could have done both, I think, and they didn't.
