Supernatural Rewatch 1:11 'Scarecrow'
Summary
If it only had a brain. Well, maybe it has! A malevolent scarecrow could be why strangers to Burkitsville, Indiana don't get out of town alive.
Original Airdate

Little Things I Noticed
*This is the third episode to have something to do with Indiana.
*Dean mentions Scottsburg and Salem. While Burkitsville is not, these two towns are very real places. Scottsburg is less than 30 minutes from where I grew up (and has an awesome Mexican restaurant that I used to go to all the time). Salem is about 45 minutes from where I grew up (and has the closest Starbucks to me...at least when I was growing up.
*While in an earlier episode ("Bugs") Sam said that the first thing he wants to do when he meets up with his dad again is apologize, the first thing he actually does is get in a fight with him.
*Dean being the good son..."Yes, sir."
*John really does treat them like little soldiers..."I gave you an order..."
*This is the ep where we first meet Meg.
*Sam is really strong willed, and seems to run away when he doesn't get his own way...college...the time he ran away that we hear about in "Dark Side of the Moon"...he really rebels against his father's hand. Or even Dean's, when Dean acts like his dad. Again, parallel to the Lucifer/Michael arc in Season 5.
Things I Liked About this Episode
*This is the ep where the Season 1 arc starts getting hot and heavy.
*The story is just kind of cool. I really like the evil scarecrow/pagan god/sacrifice plot. Creepy and cool. Especially how the whole town is in on it.
*"I hope your apple pie is freaking worth it!"
*I like that this ep shows that Dean needs Sam, too. The whole "My brother could just give you these puppy dog eyes..." down to the point where Sam has to rescue them in the end. Dean's not just taking care of him anymore, it's becoming very mutual.
*Their fight and reunion. They fight, things get bad, but when it comes down to it, family comes first, and they're there for each other.
Things I Didn't Like About this Episode
*Not much! Meg. I know she's important, but I just don't like the way the actress portrays her. Seriously, who would trust her?
