Supernatural Rewatch - 1:08 'Bugs'
Little Things I Noticed
*First time we see Dean hustling pool. Sam doesn't appear interested, as he's sitting on the hood of the car reading the paper...
*Apparently, curses can't be broken
*We find out in this Ep that Sam got a full ride scholarship to Stanford, and apparently got in a fight with his dad over it that ended with him leaving.
*We find out that John kept an eye on Sam at Stanford
*This is the first time we see Sam and Dean mistaken for a gay couple.
Things I liked about this episode
*The Sam/John/Dean subtext. I liked hearing Dean's opinions on what went on between Sam and John as contrasted to what Sam said went on with him and John. Liked hearing how Sam thought Dean was always the perfect son, while his father hated him and was always disappointed in him. Liked the mini-parallel between Sam/John and Matt/Larry, and how Larry realizes what's important at the end (his family). Sam seems to realize the same thing at the end and he expresses his desire to find John and apologize. Dean seems to think that even once this happens, they'll still be fighting.
Things I Didn't Like About this Episode
*The story? Bugs aren't scary, they're just super creepy and icky.
*The 'supernatural' element. A curse? Sam and Dean don't even do anything to stop it, the sun comes up as a deus ex machina just at the right moment.
*The tacky and cliched Indian story.
*This bears repeating - the fact that Sam and Dean didn't do anything to stop it...yes, they did the research, figured out what was going on, but then they couldn't break the curse, couldn't get the family out of the house, couldn't keep the bugs out of the house...uh, why were they there, exactly?
